TeamQuest Performance Software Monitors Solaris 10 Zones

TeamQuest Performance Software facilitates performance management and reporting for zones used with the Solaris operating system.

"TeamQuest software allows you to optimize the performance of your data center and align IT with business priorities. It provides an extensible monitoring framework to plug in user agents for data collection and a flexible report framework to visualize reports with various formats."

Accurate CPU Utilization Measurement

TeamQuest software uses Oracle's microstate accounting feature for greater accuracy in measuring CPU utilization.

Question   Did you know that Unix systems with a low level of CPU utilization will often under-report the amount of CPU being consumed? "At a real usage level of 5 percent busy, you'll often see vmstat reporting that the system is only 1 percent busy - under-reporting by 80 percent of the true value." -- Adrian Cockcroft's column from Unix Insider 6/1/98.

The errors are an unfortunate side-effect of the sampling technique being used to measure utilization. Sampling is usually accurate enough, but sometimes you need greater accuracy. To do that, TeamQuest uses Oracle's microstate accounting feature. Microstate accounting is very efficient and keeps track of state changes, thus avoiding sampling errors.

In addition, TeamQuest can take advantage of extended process accounting, when you need even greater accuracy.

Solaris Resource Manager

TeamQuest software can characterize performance in terms of Oracle Solaris 10 Resource Manager (SRM) projects, providing useful analysis when tuning SRM. TeamQuest modeling software can predict changes in system performance where the SRM's fair-share scheduling capability is being utilized.
